The MNJ Institute of Oncology & Regional Cancer Center is a 250 bedded comprehensive cancer care center on paper upgrading this institute to 450 bedded cancer center is under active consideration of the Govt. and is the sole tertiary public referral center for entire state of Andhra Pradesh. The institute is not only catering to the needs of the patients of the state of Andhra Pradesh but also to the patients from neighboring Border States. Even patients from countries like Nigeria are being treated at this institute. More than 10,000 new cancer patients are registered per year and more than 110,000 patients come for follow-up totaling of 120000 patients per year. 1500 major surgeries and 1000 minor surgeries are performed per year. Every day 300 patients are being given Radiotherapy and about 300 patients are being given Chemotherapy per day. More than 1.5 lakh cancer-related investigations are done every year. It is the only comprehensive tertiary cancer center of the state Government to provide surgery, radiotherapy and medical oncology and palliative care services free of cost to all the patients below the poverty line. The above mentioned statistics are one of the highest in our country.
It has also started 40 bedded Pediatric Medical Oncology ward with support of NAT-CO trust at an estimated cost of Rs.1.0 crore. Another NGO IMPACT has constructed additional ward to accommodate 35 children all totaling to 75 bedded ward for care of children with cancer and will be the third largest in the country after Tata Memorial Cancer Center, Mumbai and Cancer Institute in Chennai.

About Founder:-
Nawab Mehdi Nawaz Jung born on the 23rd May, 1894 in Hyderabad. He was a selfless, an able politician, an exemplary Assembly member and a Social Worker, who had worked untiringly for the development of the Hyderabad state. In recognition of his remarkable services, he was bestowed with the title “Nawab” by the Nizam, in the year 1937. He is well known for his humanitarian and nationalist ideas.
He was elected as a member to the legislative assembly in the 1st general elections after independence and worked as the Minister for Public Works, Electricity and Water Supply under Sri. Burgula Ramakrishna Rao. He later worked under Sri Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy as the Medical & Health Minister in 1956. He established the MNJ cancer hospital & Radium Institute, which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India, Late Sri Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on 8th December 1955. After assuming office as the first Governor of Gujarat State in 1960, he established the Gujarat Cancer Society on similar lines and started Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute. He had always relentlessly toiled to crusade for the poor cancer patients.
Nawab Mehdi Nawaz Jung was awarded with a Gold medal for all his humanitarian services by the Reverend Pope John Paul. He died on 27-06-1967, but all his good work continues at the MNJ Institute of Oncology & Regional Cancer Center, Hyderabad, championing the cause of underprivileged cancer patients.
